The terms.
Last updated October 12, 2026. Short version: be an adult, be decent, and don’t sue us over a bad date.
1. What this is
Dateuhate is a student-run social experiment that sets WashU students up on blind dates with people they would not normally pick. It is a game and a bit. It is not a licensed dating service, a matchmaking guarantee, a background-check service, or a substitute for your own judgment. Dateuhate is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or run by Washington University in St. Louis.
2. Who can use it
- You must be at least 18 years old and a current WashU student or recent graduate with a working @wustl.edu email.
- You may only create one profile, for yourself, with true answers. Fake, duplicate, or joke profiles may be removed without notice.
- If you are under 18, stop here. Anything you entered will be discarded.
3. How matching works (and doesn’t)
- We use your answers to pair you with someone we think you’d clash with, agree with, or otherwise find interesting. It is deliberately subjective and partly for comedy.
- There is no guarantee you will be matched at all, matched by any date, matched with a particular person, or that any match will go well. Invitations may be delayed, limited, or paused.
- Any “result”, “opposite”, card, or roast the site shows you is entertainment, not an assessment of you or anyone else.
- Where to meet and what to do is a suggestion. You decide whether to go, where to go, and when to leave.
4. Dates, safety, and conduct
- You are responsible for your own safety and behavior. Meet in public places, tell a friend where you are, and leave any situation that feels wrong.
- Treat your date like a person. Harassment, discrimination, threats, stalking, unwanted contact after a clear no, sharing someone’s information or photos without consent, or showing up intoxicated to the point of being unsafe will get you removed and may be reported.
- Dateuhate does not screen, verify, or vouch for anyone beyond checking an @wustl.edu email. We are not responsible for what anyone says or does before, during, or after a date.
- Any costs of a date (food, tickets, transport) are yours or whatever you and your date agree on.
5. Your answers, photos, and data
- We store your answers, contact details, and anything you upload (such as a résumé or photos) to run matching, contact you about dates, and improve the experiment. Only the Dateuhate team can see them; other students cannot browse profiles.
- We may share limited details (for example a first name, school, and how to reach you) with the person you are matched with, so the date can actually happen.
- We may use anonymized, aggregated answers (for example “40% of Olin respondents…”) publicly. We will not publish your individual answers, name, or photos without asking you first.
- Shareable cards, captions, and screenshots you choose to post are yours to post. Once you share something, we can’t unshare it.
- We use analytics to see how the site is used. We don’t sell your data.
- You can ask us to delete your profile and uploads at any time by emailing the address on the site, and we will.
6. Our stuff
The characters, drawings, jokes, names, and design of Dateuhate are ours. You may share the site and your own cards. You may not scrape, clone, or resell the site, its content, or other people’s information.
7. Communications
By signing up you agree that we may email or text you about your date logistics, confirmation codes, and the experiment itself. Reply STOP to a text or email us to opt out, which may mean we can’t set you up.
8. No guarantees, no liability
The site and any dates are provided “as is.” To the fullest extent the law allows, Dateuhate, its organizers, and anyone helping run it are not liable for any loss, injury, cost, embarrassment, or damage arising from the site, a match, a date, or anything a user does or says. Some places don’t allow limits like this, in which case the limit applies as far as it legally can.
9. Removal and changes
- We can remove any profile, cancel any match, or pause the experiment at any time, for any reason, without notice.
- We can change these terms. If the change matters, we’ll tell you on the site or by email, and continuing to use Dateuhate means you accept the change.
10. Contact
Questions, deletion requests, or a report about someone’s behavior: use the contact address on the site, and we will answer as fast as a student-run project can.
